The Stench
Find out how Ken Cuccinelli's not just a tinfoil-hat, John Birch Society-style, extremist wackjob, he's also corrupt, in the The Continuing Chronicle of Ken Cuccinelli's Corruption. It really stinks!

Virginia News Headlines: Thursday Morning

by: lowkell

Thu Oct 25, 2012 at 06:16:42 AM EDT

Here are a few Virginia (and national) news headlines, political and otherwise, for Thursday, October 25. Also, check out the video, in which Gov. Bob McDonnell (R, last I checked - same party as George Allen) argues strongly that the sequestration deal was absolutely necessary to avoid "default of the greatest nation on earth," which is why so many Republicans - but not crazy George Allen - supported it!

*Romney backs Mourdock as Obama continues criticism (How can anyone support Mourdock at this point? Just bizarre...)
*Donald Trump mocked on Twitter (Yet another BFF of Willard's. Ugh.)
*Bill Clinton to stump with Obama in Virginia
*Obama says Latino vote is key to victory, vows immigration reform in 2013
*Jeff's Notes: Political fraud ("Serious allegations are flying from both parties this election season, as if more proof were needed that politics isn't pretty.")
*Adelson gives $1.5 million to pro-Allen PAC (Sheldon Adelson is a Las Vegas casino slimeball and war mongering fool. No wonder he gave to Allen.)
*Allen restarts linking Kaine to Obama
*Ken Cuccinelli to discuss eminent domain
*Virginia's Allen gets flak from fellow Republican in Maryland over energy stance (Republican Rep. Roscoe Bartlett: "George Allen, who's a really nice young man, several years ago, he spoke somewhere, and he said some really dumb things about energy... He still says dumb things about energy.")
*Candidates retain ties to companies (Despite what Bartlett said, it's not that Allen's "dumb" when it comes to energy, it's that he's 100% bought and paid for by Big Oil and other fossil fuel interests. That's far worse than being "dumb.")
*U-Va. president's ouster still needs clarifying
*Fighting for the 5th: Can Democrats retake Virginia's largest district?

lowkell :: Virginia News Headlines: Thursday Morning
*Sen. Jim Webb mum on Obama's 'bayonets' remark (Pretty funny, because Webb resigned as Secretary of the Navy in part because he thought the Reagan Administration was not building enough warships. Or bayonets and horses to put on those warships? LOL)
*DEVELOPING: Moran's Son Resigns from Campaign Following Video Release
*Stanley tries to help Powell turn 7th blue, or at least bluegrass
*Allen lays defense cuts at Kaine's feet in new ad (WTF? Kaine wasn't even in Congress, Allen's own party was largely responsible for sequestration, AND it's highly unlikely those "defense cuts" will even happen. Other than that, it's a totally accurate charge by Allen against Kaine! LOL)
*Va. election officials ask Cuccinelli for voter registration probe
*Anti-gang award goes to Cuccinelli staffer known for nudity case
*Vote yes on light rail
*Editorial: In the 6th District, no good choice ("The race pits a veteran congressman on the wrong side of major policy issues against a newcomer with little understanding of the job he seeks." HUH?!? What a bizarre editorial; makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.)
*Carillon hosts Obama today
*Rigell, Hirschbiel differ on ways to protect Navy jobs
*Rigell, Hirschbiel debate in VB
*9th District congressional candidates meet in Roanoke

Transcript: President Obama's remarks on Mourdock - "Rape is rape. It is a crime" (0.00 / 0)
LENO: The senate candidate Richard Mourdock. He made a statement today -- or I -- or at least I saw it today. I want quote what he said. He said -- he was asked about rape and -- "I struggled with it, myself, for a long time, but I came to realize life is a gift from God. And even if life begins in a horrible situation of rape, it is something God intended to happen " which -- I mean, this seems like we're back to Todd Akin time again.

PRESIDENT OBAMA: Well -- you know, I don't know how these guys come up with these ideas. Let me make a very simple proposition.

LENO: Mm-hm.

PRESIDENT OBAMA: Rape is rape. It is a crime. And so, these various distinctions about rape and, you know -- don't make too much sense to me. Don't make any sense to me. The second thing this underscores, though, this is exactly why you don't want a bunch of politicians -- mostly male -- making decisions about women's health care decisions. I -- women are capable of making these decisions in consultation with their partners, with their doctors. And, you know, for politicians to want to intrude in this stuff, often times without any information, is a huge problem. And this is obviously a part of what's at stake in this election. You've got a Supreme Court that -- you know, typically a president is gonna have probably another couple of appointments during the course of his term. And, you know, Roe vs. Wade is probably hanging in the balance. You've got issues like Planned Parenthood where, you know, that organization provides millions of women cervical cancer screenings, mammograms -- all kinds of basic healthcare.

LENO: Right.

PRESIDENT OBAMA: And so I think it's really important for us to -- to understand that women are capable of making these decisions and that these are not just women's issues. These are family issues.

I don't get what's hard to understand. It's a pretty clear explanation. Goodlatte understands local concerns, but is beholden to the inflexble elements in his party. His opponent doesn't seem to know the nuts-and-bolts aspects of being a representative specifically for the Roanoke and Shenandoah Valleys. His editorials on here have all been these broad philosophical pronouncements and talk of morality than about concrete ideas, more attempts at being Deepak Chopra than Hubert Humphrey, who's the sort of model you need to look to if you want to win a district dominated by the white working class. Stand on values, but also plans to turn them into prosperity through good policy.

To steal a stolen Walter Mondale quote: "Where's the beef?"

I belong to no organized party. I am a Democrat.
