President Obama Leading Romney, Gingrich in Florida and...South Carolina?!?

by: lowkell

Sun Dec 11, 2011 at 10:57:24 AM EST

With the economy improving and with the complete joke that these Republican't candidates are, I'd already started feeling better about Barack Obama's reelection chances in 2012. Now, a brand new poll comes along that makes me feel even better! According to NBC News-Marist:
...President Obama's standing has improved in Florida, always a key presidential battleground state.

Forty-six percent of registered voters in the state approve of his job, which is up five points since October.

In hypothetical match-ups, the president leads Romney by seven points (48 to 41 percent) and Gingrich by 12 points (51 to 39 percent).
In South Carolina -- a reliable Republican state in presidential contests -- Obama's approval rating stands at 44 percent, and he holds narrow leads over Romney (45 to 42 percent) and Gingrich (46 to 42 percent).

That's right, according to these polls, Barack Obama leads the Republican presidential frontrunners head-to-head in both Florida (a must win for Republicans) and South Carolina (if Obama wins there, we're talking about a landslide of epic proportions).

Making me smile even more this morning, was George Will's column about how a Ron Paul third-party candidacy would boost Obama to wins in Missouri, Arizona, Florida, Indiana, North Carolina and Virginia, while solidifying the more solid-"blue" states in his column. Of course, based on the NBC-Marist poll numbers, Obama might not need any third-party assistance. Nonetheless, I strongly encourage Ron Paul to run, not to mention Donald Trump, Sarah Palin, or whatever other right wingnut who agrees with Glenn Beck that Newt's a "socialist" and Mitt's not much better. Gotta love it. :)

UPDATE 5:00 pm: This just in from Public Policy Polling.

Mika Brzezinski on Newt: He's "disgusting," "I can't believe he resonates" (0.00 / 0)

I couldn't agree more, Newt is repulsive. How on earth does he resonate with ANYONE?!? Of course, Mitt is no better, but still...geez.

Possible... (0.00 / 0)
...given how badly the Repubs have damaged their brand, and the residual good will the president retains.

I'm really starting to wonder though, about the possibility the brilliant Nate Silver is floating -- a brokered convention with a new nominee emerging.

Thoughts?

Unlikely, but if none of the candidates (0.00 / 0)
receive enough votes to win them the nomination, then I suppose anything's possible. Who would they turn to? Someone like Chris Christie, Mitch Daniels, Tim Pawlenty, Haley Barbour, or even Jeb Bush? Other possibilities? Bob McDonnell?

They would probably go with someone more experienced... (0.00 / 0)

Lowell, even those (0.00 / 0)
other possibilities are terrible.  How does one party create so many horrible candidates an potential candidates?

Newt Gingrich (0.00 / 0)
is quite simply the most pitiful excuse for a human being, muchless presidential wannabe, in the last 100 years.  And we have had quite a menagerie of also-rans to compete with him.  It is hard to believe there could be any candidate worse than Perry, Bachmann, Palin, Trump, Cain, Santorum, etc.  But there it is.

Newt hasn't changed, is not spiritually reborn in any real way (or he wouldn't despise children and the poor the way he does), and  neither knowledgeable nor experienced in a constructive way to lead this nation. There is nothing good about anything he has ever done. He pretends to teach history while eliminating much of it and inserting himself and his cronies into history books.  His past "leadership" was the most destructive in a century. And he still brags about it.  It is all a sick act to fob off on America the worst thing eve to happen to American politics, the "modern" (yet prehistoric at the same time) take on what once was a respectable party, the GOP.  Newt would be a  terrible president, but he is, in a way, the perfect "leader" of the party which is fast swirling down the toilet.  Grover Norquist thinks he is drowning government in the bathtub, but what he is doing is watching his own party swish down the sewer.

There's nothing in the middle of the road except yellow stripes and dead armadillos (Jim Hightower). PS I'm on Twitter here.

But he likes zoos... (0.00 / 0)
...so he must be a wonderful guy.

don't forget his corporate sponsors.  Government of for and by the corporations and lobby shops he has represented.
