From Del. Patrick Hope (D-Arlington):

Richmond – "Today, the Virginia General Assembly voted to seek health insurance coverage for nearly 400,000 poor, uninsured Virginians as envisioned under the Affordable Care Act.  This is truly a historic day!

The decision to expand Medicaid is being made with today's vote.  With this vote, we are directing the Department of Medical Assistance Services to seek the necessary reforms to make our Medicaid program more efficient and to institute quality and cost-containment measures to bring our program into the 21st century.  The Medicaid Innovation and Reform Commission will have direct oversight over these reforms to ensure they actually occur and I want to commend the conferees for providing this oversight.

We had a historic opportunity to reform our Medicaid program, expand coverage to more Virginians, and stimulate our economy all at the same time. Today, we seized that opportunity."

Patrick A. Hope is a Member of the Virginia General Assembly as the Delegate from the 47th District representing part of Arlington County.  He serves on the Militia, Police and Public Safety Committee and House Health, Welfare, and Institutions Committee.
