What's happening to Tracy Thorne-Begland??

REmember him?  He's the guy who McDonnell nominated to the Richmond district Court last General Assembly session only to have him turned down because of his sexual orientation.  As I recall, Del. Sideshow Bob Marshall led the charge against him and the rest of the Republikans didn't have the guts to stand up to sideshow Bob.

After the General Assembly adjournce, he was appointed by the court but now he must be approved by the General Assembly.

What's going on with this?

He's one step closer to (0.00 / 0)
being a judge:
A House panel voted in favor of Thorne-Begland and 8 others seeking a seat on the bench. The process now heads to the full House of Delegates, where Thorne-Begland was rebuked of a potential judgeship last year.

Thorne-Begland was questioned for 45 minutes today by the House Justice Committee before the unanimous vote in favor of the group of candidates.

Thanks . . . keeping my fingers crossed!! (0.00 / 0)
Thanks for the update.

Here's a personal tale.

I live in Northumberland County, along the Potomac River. Most of the homes in my area are second homes and are occupied only on the occasional weekend and a week or so in the summer.  I'm one of the few year-round residents.

Guy across the road is a high-powered, Republican attorney from Richmond, quite conservative, nice guy . . . when he comes for the weekend, we consume the output of a couple of Scotch distilleries and scare a lot of fish . . . we do some deer hunting, crabbing, and the like . . . I keep an eye on his place, cut his grass (for free) . . .

So, last year I wrote a letter to the editor to the Richmond Times-Dispatch in support of Thorne-Begland.  My neighbor called me from his office in Richmond, told me he had read my letter . . . I was all set for one of his rightwing blasts when he told me he was a BIG supporter of Thorne-Begland, what a fine attorney he is, how he's respected throughout the Richmond legal community, and how he (my neighbor) was incensed at the opposition to Thorne-Begland!!!

Maybe good sense will prevail this time.
