The Farm Team Enthusiastically Supports Del. Charniele Herring for VA Democratic Party Chair

by: The Farm Team

Wed Nov 14, 2012 at 11:52:14 AM EST

(Agreed, this is an excellent pick! - promoted by lowkell)

With the announcement this morning that Brian Moran will be stepping down as chair of the Virginia Democratic Party, The Farm Team announces their strong support for the election of Delegate Charniele Herring as our next Democratic Party chair and Virginia's first African American chair.

"I am confident Delegate Charniele Herring has the skills and tenacity to reach out to the many different constituencies within our Party, from small business owners to immigrants to minorities and women.  Her well-rounded skills and life experience make her, once again, a winning choice for our Party.  I am proud to offer The Farm Teams endorsement of her candidacy for Virginia State Party Chair" said Susan S. Platt, Founding member of The Farm Team.

Delegate Herring was the first woman that The Farm Team supported in her special election in January, 2009.  She will bring a fresh and winning perspective to the future of the Virginia Democratic Party.

Herring has the unique background - and inspiring life story - to reach out to the many diverse constituencies throughout Virginia.  As a child  who spent a part of her teenaged years in homelessness, Herring put herself through law school, now runs her own small business, and was the first African-American woman elected to the House of Delegates from the Northern Virginia region.  Herring currently serves as Minority Whip for the House Democratic Caucus.

The Farm Team thanks Brian Moran for his hard work and dedication to the Democratic Party over the last several months and wishes him well in future endeavors.

I am announcing that I am running for Chair of the Democratic Party of Virginia.

Our Chairman, Brian Moran announced that he would be stepping down from his position earlier today. It is important that we take a moment to thank him for his service. His leadership helped to place Virginia in the win column for our President and Senator-elect Tim Kaine. Seeing him travel the Commonwealth and dedicate his time to the Democratic Party in the last several months of the election was an inspiration, and I am proud to have his support as I purse election to succeed him.

I have a vision that the Democratic Party can build upon the success of the 2012 election, channel our grassroots strength and achieve victory in 2013 and beyond.

I am also seeking election to this position so that I can make sure that we are focusing on what is happening in Richmond. As the House Minority Whip, when I am in session I am fighting first hand for the Virginia in which we want to live. I am proud to work as part of a leadership team that brings Democrats together, and I look forward to adding an element to our party that will better connect our grassroots supporters to the issues we are facing in Richmond every winter.

While I know the path ahead will be a challenging one, I am proud to have the support of so many of my friends and colleagues including many members of the Virginia Legislative Black Caucus as well as many members of the Virginia House and Senate Caucuses.

I am also grateful to have the support of several candidates for office, including former DNC Chairman and candidate for Governor Terry McAuliffe.

A story like mine could only be written here, and it can only be achieved when we have strong, compassionate leaders. I look forward to sharing my story with you, and hearing yours.

Over the next several days, I will be reaching out to members of the state central committee, local party chairs, and our activists. More importantly, I look forward to hearing from them and from you.

All my best,
