BREAKING: Republican Party Vendor, Operative Arrested in Voter Registration Trashing Case

by: lowkell

Thu Oct 18, 2012 at 20:00:12 PM EDT

Wow, check this out.
The Rockingham County Sheriff's office has arrested a Pennsylvania man and charged him with attempting to throw away filled out voter registration forms.

Colin Small, 31 year old male from Phoenixville, PA has been charged with 8 felonies and 5 misdemeanors in connection with the controversy. He is employed by Pinpoint, a company that was hired by the Republican Party of Virginia to help with voter registration.

Not Larry Sabato adds: "Sheriff's office said he was a vendor through Republican Party of Virginia, his linkedin profile says he works for the Republican National Committee." NLS also provides this screenshot of Colin Small's LinkedIn profile (I've posted the image on the "flip" of this article as well), where he lists himself as "Grassroots Field Director at Republican National Committee." Wow!

P.S. Great job by the Rockingham County Sheriff, a Republican, who did a professional, thorough, and QUICK job on this!

P.P.S. This has been a fast-moving story. For a bit more background, see yesterday's Blue Virginia story here, including video from NBC29 and photos of the Sheriff with Paul Ryan, Bob Goodlatte, etc. Also see NLS' original story from yesterday.

Ryan Nobles didn't "break the story" (0.00 / 1)
Ryan Nobles was simply the first person to reprint the press release and photo from Rockingham County.  Nobles is a Republican who tirelessly slants his stories against Democrats.  All he did was reprint a press release and photo released by Rockingham County--probably against his will. Don't give him credit for a story he probably would have preferred to cover up.

The Richmonder

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of Ryan Nobles either... (0.00 / 1)
Is he really a Republican?  That wouldn't surprise me at all, given his horrible coverage of Democrats, progressives, etc. Ugh.

Nobles is a damned good reporter. (0.00 / 0)
He gets the story out and does a very good job. It's cowardly to impeach him under a pseudonym.

You may disagree with The Richmonder, but... (0.00 / 0)'s absurd to say that he's blogging under a pseudonym, when: a) almost everyone who reads Virginia political blogs knows who The Richmonder is (in addition to his own blog, he's written frequently at Blue Virginia); and b) he links right in his comment (the one you attack falsely as being posted under a "pseudonym") to his VPAP vendor page, for Jerel C. Wilmore. That's about as transparent as anyone ever gets on the internet!

Fair enough. (0.00 / 0)
That being said, I had no idea who he was just like most readers here have no idea who I am.

Wouldn't it be nice if someone could do a web-ad about this? (4.00 / 1)
Along the lines:   Now we know why Virginia Republicans seem so sure Voter Fraud is taking place... Because they're the ones committing it.

Then run quick shots of the registration forms, the dumpster, the indictment.

Final screenshot:  Voter suppression = Voter Fraud

Not my skill set, personally, but maybe someone reading this could pitch the idea to someone who could make it happen.   In a perfect world, DPVA would take this issue and run with it.   In our real world, they will probably issue a press release and let it drop.   But both of our Senators have PACs.   There might be some spare change jingling in the coffers of other safe Democrats.   Terry Mac might want to make some Democratic activists happy the year before he needs their enthusiastic support.

So I thought I'd put this thought out there.

Strong agree. (0.00 / 0)
I've never been as disappointed in the Republican Party of Virginia as I am tonight.

Will Cuccinelli investigate this?? (0.00 / 0)
No doubt Cooch is on his way to Harrisonburg right now to prosecute this clown.

Press Release from Rockingham Sheriff's Office (0.00 / 0)
October 18, 2012

The Rockingham County Sheriff's Office has made an arrest in the investigation of voter registration fraud that began on the afternoon of October 15th when law enforcement received a citizen complaint of voter registration application forms being found in a dumpster behind a business in the City of Harrisonburg.

The following individual has been charged:

Mr. Colin Small, 31 year old male of Phoenixville, PA
Voter Registration Supervisor employed by Pinpoint, an independent private organization contracted by the Republican Party of Virginia for purposes of general voter registration.

Copy of mugshot attached to this release

The following charges have been placed:

Four (4) counts of Destruction of Voter Registration Application, Class 1 Misdemeanor, Section 24.2-1002.01, Code of Virginia

Eight (8) counts of Disclosure of Voter Registration Application, Class 5 Felony, Section 24.2-1002.01, Code of Virginia

One (1) count of Obstruction of Justice, Class 1 Misdemeanor, Section 18.2-460(A), Code of Virginia
These charges are based upon lengthy consultation with and assistance from the Rockingham County Commonwealth Attorney's Office regarding the investigation.

There is no indication that this activity was widespread in our jurisdiction; it appears to be very limited in nature but there is the possibility that additional charges may be filed in the future if it is deemed appropriate.  There are no other details that we can release at this time, as this is still an active and ongoing criminal investigation.

Anyone who may have a question regarding their own voter registration status is encouraged to contact the County Registrar's office or the Sheriff's Office.

A news report (0.00 / 0)
last night said that the registrations were being accepted by the local registrar because they had been filled out and turned in on time.  I'm happy that occurred, but was surprised because from news reports the forms were trashed on Tuesday...after the Monday registration deadline.
