The Stench
Find out how Ken Cuccinelli's not just a tinfoil-hat, John Birch Society-style, extremist wackjob, he's also corrupt, in the The Continuing Chronicle of Ken Cuccinelli's Corruption. It really stinks!

Virginia News Headlines: Tuesday Morning

Here are a few Virginia news headlines, political and otherwise, for Tuesday, September 11 (amazingly, it's now been 11 years since that day most of us will never forget; see my photo from NY City over Labor Day weekend - "Unwavering Spirit: Hope & Healing at Ground Zero").

*Both campaigns eschew politics on 9/11 anniversary
*Gallup: Many Key Indicators Better Than When Obama Took Office (Yes, we are better off. MUCH better off!)
*Congress returns for short pre-election session
*The Washington Post Lies About Its Own Poll (Of course, these are the same idiots who won't cite PPP - one of the best polling outfits in the business - because it's automated, yet they cite all kinds of other crappy polls, and can't tell the difference between "registered" and "likely" voters. Duhhhhhhh....drool.)
*ABC News poll report buries the lede: Obama crushing Romney in battleground states (Wow, this is HUGE, almost worse than the Kaplan Post's drooling idiocy.)
*The Shallow End of the Campaign ("On issue after issue raised in the first weekend of interviews after the conventions, Romney and Ryan actively tried to obscure their positions, as if a clear understanding of their beliefs about taxes, health care or spending would scare away anyone who was listening.")
*Romney Campaign Plagiarized Obama's Donation Website (Why am I not surprised, this coming from a campaign that lies about its lies about its lies about...)
*Miller: Republicans' 9/11-tax cut disconnect
*Milbank: Is Sept. 11 ordinary again? ("Residents of the capital will awaken to what is forecast to be another clear Tuesday morning, just like that one 11 years ago, and they will find that the day that changed the nation is becoming more and more ordinary.")
*Editorial: Mitt Romney knows better: Popular health reforms are not free. (Bottom line: you can't have the "popular" parts of health care reform, on pre-existing conditions or whatever, without paying for them. Just like "freedom is not free," nor is a civilized society. Do Republicans understand that?)
*11 years after terror attacks, security funds dwindle
*Michelle Obama to campaign Thursday in central Va., Fredericksburg
*Study gives Virginia mixed reviews on voter protections
*Fairfax schools projecting $150 million shortfall
*WMATA finds $28 million surplus
*Editorial: Fall is for elections ("Roanoke City Council should spring forward and move municipal elections from May to November.")
*Report: Kaine leads in fundraising from Virginia voters
*Cuccinelli endorses GOP candidate in W.Va. AG race
*Cantor speaks to regional Chamber of Commerce
*Naval Academy grads join on book about serving after Sept. 11
*Thousands of Virginia students use religious opt-out of education ("Virginia is the only state that allows families to avoid government intrusion in their schooling.")
*New tower, tenants proposed for Virginia Beach's Town Center
*Living shorelines: Virginia landowners learning the value of manmade marshes and beaches
*Portraits of Virginia's first ladies unveiled
*Nats clobber three homers to top Mets

STATEMENT ON 11TH ANNIVERSARY OF SEPTEMBER 11TH ATTACKS

Richmond, VA - Tim Kaine released the following statement in commemoration of the 11th anniversary of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 and recognition of the September 11th National Day of Service and Remembrance.

"Today, Anne and I join all Americans in expressing our sincere appreciation for the soldiers, sailors, airmen, Marines, guard members, first responders, and others and who work every day to keep us safe and secure at home and abroad.

"On this day eleven years ago our Commonwealth and our country were struck by an unimaginable act of terror. Even as we mourned, we resolved to honor the nearly 3,000 innocent lives lost by better protecting our nation and rededicating ourselves to a national spirit of service. Our response included military action that took many of our best and bravest far from their families for months and years at a time. All Americans owe these men and women, and their families, a debt of gratitude. In particular, our thoughts and prayers are with the families of more than 6,500 service members who lost their lives in conflicts abroad since that day, including more than 2,000 in Afghanistan. We also pray for the safe return of the thousands of men and women who are serving in Afghanistan, as we speak.

"The tragedy of September 11, 2001 also reawakened a spirit of national unity and service that is seen in the September 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance. Our nation has always been at its best when we come together to support one another, as in the dark days following those terrible attacks. Since then, our Commonwealth and country have seen days of sorrow and joy, but we have never lost the unique sense of American optimism that our best days are still ahead of us.

"This eleventh anniversary coincides with an uplifting piece of news which marks a turning point in our response to the attacks. For the first time in a decade, every unit of the Virginia National Guard is home. Overseas deployments to Iraq, Afghanistan, and other foreign theaters, as well as domestic responsibilities, took many of our guardsmen and women away from their families and friends. We know they may again be called to serve, but for now we celebrate their safe return and pray for the families of those who did not return home."
