Find out how Ken Cuccinelli's not just a tinfoil-hat, John Birch Society-style, extremist wackjob, he's also corrupt, in the The Continuing Chronicle of Ken Cuccinelli's Corruption. It really stinks!

Kaine Rallies with Planned Parenthood in Arlington

by: lowkell

The following press release is from the Kaine campaign; looks like a great event! Of course, this is also one great reason for every woman in Virginia to vote for Tim Kaine, who believes that women and their doctors should make their own medical decisions, over George Allen, who believes the government should tell women what types of contraception they can or cannot use, whether they can or cannot have abortions even in cases of rape or incest, etc. Oh, and any men who care about women's health should also strongly support Tim Kaine over George Allen.  That just about covers it, I'd say. :)
KAINE RALLIES WITH PLANNED PARENTHOOD IN ARLINGTON

Richmond, VA -   As a part of his campaign for U.S. Senate, Tim Kaine today joined the Planned Parenthood “Women are Watching” bus tour at a stop in Arlington. During the rally of more than 200 supporters, Kaine affirmed his support for women to make their own health care decisions and criticized efforts by politicians to limit women’s health care access.

“Often, these issues are pushed by the other side as wedge issues. They want to use wedge issues that divide us,” said Kaine. “Women’s lives are not political issues, women’s lives are not wedge issues. Women have the ability to make their own health care decisions and their own moral decisions.”

“There has never been a time when we’ve needed fewer wedge issues,” Kaine continued. “The two sides are already too far apart. We need more glue issues that can bind us together.”

Later in the event, Kaine contrasted his record of support for women’s health care choices with George Allen’s record and approach to those same issues.

“There is a live proposal to push federal personhood legislation in Washington. This is a very dangerous piece of legislation,” said Kaine. “My opponent is in favor of it and we need to make sure that women and men watch to make sure Congress doesn’t pursue such a damaging policy, which could ultimately overturn Roe v. Wade and ban access to some forms of FDA-approved birth control."

Planned Parenthood Richmond Rally: "We Are Watching, and We Vote!" (0.00 / 0)
Planned Parenthood Action Fund Holds Powerful Rally in Richmond, VA
150 Supporters of Women's Health Say "We Are Watching, and We Vote!"

The Planned Parenthood Action Fund today held a rally in Richmond, VA as part of the Women are Watching bus tour, which is crisscrossing the country to educate voters about what's at stake for women's health in November and mobilize them to get out the vote. The Action Fund is the advocacy and political arm of Planned Parenthood Federation of America.

Gathering at 17th Street Farmers' Market more than 150 voters sent a clear message to candidates and politicians like Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan, who oppose women's health - women are watching and they vote. This year, women will decide the outcome of elections across the country and are watching very closely to ensure that they elect candidates who will protect women's health care.

"Planned Parenthood health centers offer critical health services including birth control and cancer screenings to thousands of Virginians every year and those services are endangered by candidates who have pledged to defund them," said Cianti Stewart-Reid, executive director of Planned Parenthood Advocates of Virginia. "We can't afford to elect politicians like Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan who don't understand that women and families would be directly hurt by these policies."

Efforts to eliminate access to birth control, cancer screenings, and basic preventive health services started in Congress 18 months ago. Now we're seeing cuts and attacks put women's health at risk in states like Virginia - which is a preview of what Mitt Romney would do all across America.

Nearly three million patients come to Planned Parenthood health centers every year - not to make a political statement but to get high-quality affordable health care. Planned Parenthood sees more than two million patients for birth control every year, and conducts nearly 750,000 breast cancer screenings and more than four million STI tests/treatments. In Virginia, more than 24,000 individuals receive essential health services from Planned Parenthood each year.

These are basic economic issues for women and families, and supporting family planning is smart fiscal policy for the country.

In August 2011, Governor Bob McDonnell fast-tracked excessive and onerous temporary regulations on a purported "emergency" basis, thereby limiting public discourse of and education on the issue. Then in March 2012, Governor McDonnell signed a mandatory ultrasound law that creates new, onerous obstacles for women seeking abortion care that have no basis in medicine. It forces women to make two trips to access a safe and legal abortion and requires doctors to perform an ultrasound before performing an abortion.

Planned Parenthood Action Fund is the leading advocate for Planned Parenthood health centers across the nation, and has launched its largest-ever campaign effort because so much is at stake for women's health in this election.
