Virginia News Headlines: Saturday Morning

Here are a few Virginia news headlines, political and otherwise, for Saturday, August 11. Oh, and (uh?)happy "Macacaversary," as it was exactly 6 years ago that George Allen called a young, Asian-American man a "macaque monkey" and told him "welcome to America and the real world of Virginia." Yep, that's George Allen for you - nasty, bigoted, incoherent (note that he refers to "your opponent" and "his opponent" - huh?!?), etc. What a guy.

*Ryan expected to be Romney's running mate (While I'm bummed it's not "Transvaginal Bob," as that pick would have doubled down on the Republican "war on women," Paul Ryan doubles down on...a lot of bad s*** for Republicans; see Ezra Klein's analysis here.)
*McDonnell Passed Over as Romney Running Mate (Shocker! Not.)
*Jon Huntsman Sr., longtime Romney backer, calls on him to release tax returns

*Ex-Sen. John Warner won't appear at Democratic convention (Too bad, I would have loved to see John Warner there; he fits in MUCH better with the current Democratic Party than the current Teapublican/John Bircher Party, that's for sure!)

*AP source: Romney to announce Ryan as VP pick in Norfolk

*Hirschbiel, Rigell air first TV ads ("Davis to leave McDonnell administration for Lt. Gov. run")
*Frank Wolf's war on the airports authority ("Mr. Wolf's pique is mostly justified; his solution is not.")
*Hampton Roads deserves a debate ("Kaine offered to debate here in October, and as The Pilot's Julian Walker reported, officials from the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce said Allen declined an invitation.")
*Biden to visit Danville, Wytheville, Blacksburg
*Nationals get seventh straight win (Forget the 'Skins, the Nationals are definitely the team to watch this fall - they're amazing!)

Obama campaign statement on Paul Ryan pick (0.00 / 0)

OBAMA CAMPAIGN STATEMENT ON ROMNEY VICE PRESIDENTIAL PICK
CHICAGO - Obama for America Campaign Manager Jim Messina released the following statement in response to Mitt Romney picking Congressman Paul Ryan to be his presumptive nominee for vice president:
"In naming Congressman Paul Ryan, Mitt Romney has chosen a leader of the House Republicans who shares his commitment to the flawed theory that new budget-busting tax cuts for the wealthy, while placing greater burdens on the middle class and seniors, will somehow deliver a stronger economy. The architect of the radical Republican House budget, Ryan, like Romney, proposed an additional $250,000 tax cut for millionaires, and deep cuts in education from Head Start to college aid. His plan also would end Medicare as we know it by turning it into a voucher system, shifting thousands of dollars in health care costs to seniors. As a member of Congress, Ryan rubber-stamped the reckless Bush economic policies that exploded our deficit and crashed our economy. Now the Romney-Ryan ticket would take us back by repeating the same, catastrophic mistakes."
