The Stench
Find out how Ken Cuccinelli's not just a tinfoil-hat, John Birch Society-style, extremist wackjob, he's also corrupt, in the The Continuing Chronicle of Ken Cuccinelli's Corruption. It really stinks!

Here are a few Virginia news headlines, political and otherwise, for Wednesday, August 1.

*Romney wraps rocky trip abroad ("Tour intended to show voters he can be a statesman raises doubts about team's campaign readiness.")
*Romney tax plan: Cuts for rich, hikes for 95%
*Reid: Romney didn't pay taxes for 10 years
*The superficial American ("Mitt Romney's overseas tour left much to be desired.")
*Virgil Goode's candidacy may help Obama ("Particularly in Virginia, the former congressman may attract votes that likely would have gone to Romney.")
*The Washington airports authority's costly mistakes (I'm starting to think that MWAA needs to be completely restructured - fire everyone and start all over again, for starters. What a slime pit.)
*Editorial: Don't allow casinos in Virginia ("Even limited to two cities, casinos would cause problems for the commonwealth.")
*Allen points up local impact of defense cuts (Right, so why should anyone vote for the party - Allen's party - that was responsible for getting us into this situation in the first place?!?)
*Schapiro: GOP gambles that cuts tip Va. to Romney (Only if people believe Republicans Big Lie.)
*Judge strikes down Va. law on ballot petitions
*Va. Senate race focuses on energy
*McDonnell puts more educators on university boards after U-Va. crisis
*Va. sets nearly $1 billion project on I-95 ("Virginia has reached a deal to build and enhance a stretch of express lanes on Interstate 95 in Northern Virginia through a nearly $1 billion project.")
*More HOV lanes coming to I-95 in Virginia by next year
*Report: Romney plans mid-August bus trip that would stop in Norfolk
*Fairfax joins Arlington, approves streetcar in Baileys Crossroads ("A short, uncontroversial segment will start in Skyline, run through Baileys Crossroads and connect with Columbia Pike.")
*Titans of Tysons Corner meet, start building city ("New buildings from Macerich and Lerner are underway on Route 123 between the two malls.")
*Emails show U.Va. board members' support for Dragas
*Led by Virginia Beach gymnast, U.S. women's team takes gold
*Relegated to spoiler role, Phillies play the part, dismantle Nationals

I can't wait to hear the excuse for this one! (0.00 / 0)
The Romney plan has long been shown to increase the taxes on the lowest 20% of Americans, which most of the fanatic Right have suggested was fair, since "the lower 50% doesn't pay any income tax" (BS).

Once this report comes out, I can't wait to hear the spin on the claim that the lowest 95% will see their taxes increase slightly. Will the T.E.A. (taxed enough already) Party continue to support the guy raising the taxes? History says, yes; they are a bunch of hypocrites.

Tea Party=Tool Party (0.00 / 0)
Tools of the corporations, tools of the Koch brothers, etc. I believe people like this were once called "useful idiots."

Video: Gore Vidal vs. William F. Buckley (0.00 / 0)

Vidal calls Buckley a crypto-Nazi, and Buckley calls Vidal "queer" (also threatens to punch him), which in that day and age, was what passed for acceptable political discourse by right wingers like Buckley. Come to think of it, some things never really change, do they?

By the way, Vidal became more and more of a "crackpot" as he aged (0.00 / 0)
I tend to agree with Christopher Hitchens on this point:
As literary feuds go it has the all the hallmarks of a classic. In one corner, the journalist and polemicist Christopher Hitchens. In the other, America's great man of letters, Gore Vidal.

The latest salvo is in this month's Vanity Fair where, in an article headlined "Vidal Loco", Hitchens launches a stinging attack on Vidal, claiming that the events of 9/11 "accentuated a crackpot strain" in the author. He claims that Vidal's work after the terrorist attacks consists of "a small anthology of half-argued and half-written shock pieces [which] either insinuated or asserted that the administration had known in advance of the attacks."

"He openly says that the Bush administration was 'probably' in on the 9/11 attacks, a criminal complicity that would 'certainly fit them to a T'; that Timothy McVeigh was 'a noble boy', no more murderous than generals Patton and Eisenhower; and that 'Roosevelt saw to it that we got that war' by inciting the Japanese to attack Pearl Harbor," Hitchens writes.

Either Vidal was just being provocative (for the sake of it? for no good reason?), or he was just completely off his rocker in his latter years...
