The Stench
Find out how Ken Cuccinelli's not just a tinfoil-hat, John Birch Society-style, extremist wackjob, he's also corrupt, in the The Continuing Chronicle of Ken Cuccinelli's Corruption. It really stinks!

Virginia News Headlines: Tuesday Morning

by: lowkell

Tue Jul 31, 2012 at 06:32:37 AM EDT

Here are a few Virginia news headlines, political and otherwise, for Tuesday, July 31.

*Andrew Sullivan: "The Conservative Case For Obama - Again" ("On almost every front, on almost every issue, in this crisis, Obama is more conservative than Romney.")
*"Republican Congressman Blasts GOP: Party Caters To 'Extremes,' Is 'Incapable Of Governing'" (Gee, ya think?!? I'm just amazed a Republican actually admitted it!)
*In Israel, Romney pleases crowds - but also confuses ("He again steps into controversy by blaming Israeli-Palestinian 'cultural' differences for economic disparity." Clueless and incompetent on foreign policy, traveling the world offending people everywhere he goes. #FAIL)
*Obama may be descendent of country's first slave through his white mother ("Genealogy study links president, whose father was Kenyan, to a man considered Va.'s first black slave.")
*His own biggest fan ("Romney's overseas trip is mostly spent removing his foot from his mouth.")
*Obama to appear at Loudoun County High School
*Airports board takes care of its own, including Jeffrey Thompson (I was never a fan of MWAA, and I'm really not a fan now!)
*Pace of new voter registration slows in Virginia
*Issa gives commuter tax idea a big boost
*McCain, other GOP figures bring defense budget debate to Norfolk (I love it, the people who caused the problem in the first place now are lecturing us on what we need to do about it? Chutzpah!)
*Editorial: Smarter than the average plan ("Managing the rise of black bears, 'the monarch of Virginia's wild kingdom.'")
*Privatization of Va. sex offender program opposed
*Va. ends fiscal year with $129 million surplus
*Doubts on warming are melting away your views ("The biggest barrier to action on global warming has always been political, rather than practical, a fact that the oil and gas industry has exploited to postpone change.")
*Editorial: A public process on uranium ("Public notice of some meetings on a proposed mining operation has been less than optimal.")
*Surveillance video shows suspects robbing Arlington check cashing store

Video: Romney doubles down on Cold War rhetoric (0.00 / 0)
I'm just surprised he didn't say "Soviet Union," like one of his top foreign policy advisors did the other day. Ugh, what a disaster.

Meanwhile, John McCain completely contradicts Romney (0.00 / 0)
saying that Israeli-Palestinian differences "have nothing to do with cultures." What's amazing is that Romney clearly seems to believe that geography, climate, resources, and a bunch of other factors have nothing to do with how a nation develops (apparently Romney never read any of Jared Diamond's books, such as "Guns, Germs & Steel", which argues that "that the gaps in power and technology between human societies originate in environmental differences, which are amplified by various positive feedback loops.")

Three for Three (0.00 / 0)
Just so the Polish people won't be left out of the gaffe fest that has been Romney's foreign misadventure, his aide told the press in Warsaw to, "Kiss my a**."

It seems that the Romney camp, which has not allowed questions from reporters since Willard tried to explain his Olympic-sized failure in London, was upset that reporters shouted questions from the other side of the rope line as Willard and company visited the Polish shrine to unknown soldiers.

Ordinarily, such treatment of the press by Romney and his aides would turn the reporters against a candidate, but I suppose the corporate owners are not allowing that this time.

From Greta Van Sustern of Fox News (0.00 / 0)

"There has been no press access to Governor Romney since we landed in Poland. We (press) are in a holding pattern (I can't help but feel a bit like the press is a modified petting zoo since we are trapped in a bus while Polish citizens take pictures of us.)"

http://gretawire.foxnewsinside...
"We could not see Romney as we were exiting the old town hall, but we do have a little tape of people shouting, 'Obama! Obama!'"
