The Stench
Find out how Ken Cuccinelli's not just a tinfoil-hat, John Birch Society-style, extremist wackjob, he's also corrupt, in the The Continuing Chronicle of Ken Cuccinelli's Corruption. It really stinks!

2012 Shatters Record for America's Hottest Spring

by: TheGreenMiles

Thu Jun 07, 2012 at 11:29:22 AM EDT

This just in from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration:
According to NOAA scientists, the average temperature for the contiguous U.S. during May was 64.3°F, 3.3°F above the long-term average, making it the second warmest May on record. The month's high temperatures also contributed to the warmest spring, warmest year-to-date, and warmest 12-month period the nation has experienced since recordkeeping began in 1895.

The spring season's (March-May) nationally averaged temperature was 57.1°F, 5.2°F above the 1901-2000 long-term average, surpassing the previous warmest spring (1910) by 2.0°F.

Data like this is why I don't use the term climate "skeptic." Who could rationally process America being five degrees above normal and shattering the record for hottest spring by two full degrees and think, "Meh, I'm not yet convinced"? This is what a climate crisis looks like, and if you can't accept that, you're denying reality.

Not the way it works. (4.00 / 1)
Here's how it works with the science denying freaks:

1. If there's a cold day, preferably with snow, in the middle of the winter, then by god it's PROOF that there's NO global warming.
2. If there's a major blizzard in the middle of the winter, then it's time to roll out the 24/7 propaganda on Faux "News" about how it's PROOF that this whole climate change thing is just a "hoax" invented by liberals/commies/whatever.
3. If, on the other hand, it's warmer than normal, month after month/year after year around the world, then just ignore it, or claim it's sunspots, or "natural variation," or something, ANYTHING but what's really happening, which is that we're pumping billions of tons of greenhouse gases per year into the atmosphere, totally f***ing it up and trashing the planet.
4. No matter what's happening with the weather, continue the long-term, extremely well-funded (by ExxonMobil, etc.) propaganda campaign aimed at "proving" that thousands upon thousands of climate scientists, studying this phenomenon for more than a century now, are all in cahoots with each other in a great/dastardly conspiracy the likes of which the world has never known (at least since the evil Darwin said we are related to the apes - APES, I tell you!!!!!).

As for "reality," that's not relevant here at all. Just like right wingnuts can convince themselves of the "Laffer curve," that you can balance the budget by cutting taxes AND increasing spending, etc, they also can convince themselves that up is down, black is white, and man's emissions of greenhouse gases are not f***ing up the planet.

What was the global average temperature increase this spring? (0.00 / 0)
The US was under the influence of an anomalous NAO (North Atlantic Oscillation). And yeah, there's no question it was a hot Spring. But it was colder than average in Europe. And it's actually been cooler than average since the NAO relaxed. And I'm not even doubting that it was probably the warmest worldwide Spring to date (that's why I'm asking - show me the #), or that climate change may very well have brought on this NAO anomaly. But you're cherry-picking weather patterns to prove your point. It's called global warming, not US warming. Less an issue of not being convinced (there's literally no doubt) and more an issue of "this particular data point does not prove what you're saying."
