Connolly Slams GOP, Male Religious Leaders

by: Elaine in Roanoke

Gerry Connolly made me proud yesterday when he denounced a GOP hearing being used to politicize President Obama's compromise on contraception coverage for women employees of religious groups. The panel called to testify before Darrell Issa's oversight committee consisted only of five men, one a Catholic bishop. Connolly called the hearing exactly what it was, "a sham," a blatant attempt to turn women's health into metaphorical red meat for consumption by the far right of the GOP.

No Wonder (0.00 / 0)
No wonder President Obama now leads all GOP contenders among Independents and among women.

And (0.00 / 0)
will continue to do so. The pic kind of says it all. I cannot see why ANY woman-conservative, liberal, indie would vote for a rethug. I know folks continue to vote against their best interests but REALLY?? This is acceptable? Are we really going down the path of no contraception available in the country?

Yikes!

More Taliban Dictates from Virginia GOP legislators (0.00 / 0)
We also have to remember:
1. A woman seeking termination of a pregnancy explicitly does NOT have the right to refuse a ultrasound, even a vaginal one. If she desires an abortion, the Virginia GOP Taliban now requires her to have the ultrasound. (Are "virginity tests" like those sometimes forced on women in fundamentalist Muslim countries next for guys like Bob Marshall?)

2. The Virginia GOP Taliban has now passed, and McDonnell will sign, a bill that eliminates money for poor women to receive an abortion if the fetus they are carrying is certified by a doctor to have "gross, severe physical or mental impairments." So, now those women will have to deliver a child destined to die soon after birth or be institutionalized during its short life. (Such abortions are extremely, extremely rare in Virginia.)

There is something sick about men who stay so obsessed with the reproductive organs of women.
