Virginia News Headlines: Wednesday Morning

Here are a few Virginia news headlines, political and otherwise, for Wednesday, February 1. Also, thanks to The Richmonder for the excellent video of yesterday's protect our vote rally in Richmond.

*Richmond's focus turns to abortion ("action in Richmond has revealed some members of the [Republican] party are as focused as ever on familiar divisive social issues, to the exclusion of much else.")
*Va. voting bills compared to Jim Crow era
*Va. handgun purchase limits likely to end
*Va. House, Senate pass bills barring state contracts tied to unions
*Gov. Bob McDonnell to headline Republican dinner in Ohio next month
*Va. Supreme Court denies Cuccinelli petition in redistricting case (Yet another loss for our esteemed Attorney General.)
*McDonnell joins the fray over Greenpeace campaign
*Kaine Declines Fredericksburg Patriots Forum Invitation
*Schapiro: Va.'s big-government governor
*Vote postponed on new abortion rule as changes debated
*Editorial: Let the judges do their jobs
*Manassas goes electric with Chevy Volt
*Fairfax County has snared more than 9,000 new jobs, economic development agency says
*Chesapeake, Portsmouth led region in population growth
*Spring? Nope. But January felt like it. And February's starting off nicely
*Man charged in Va. activist Lenny Harris's death

P.S. And, of course, Willard won Florida, which means that he almost certainly will be the Teapublican nominee to lose to President Obama in November. Still, I hope that an increasingly angry, unhinged Newton Leroy takes it all the way to the convention, at which point the "Get Off My Lawn!!!" conspiracy theorist/racist (Ron Paul) runs as a third-party candidate, and President Obama wins a huge landslide on election day. Hey, a progressive can dream, can't he? :)
