Virginian-Pilot: "Gulf oil spill drifts to Virginia"

Superb editorial by the Virginian-Pilot, here's an excerpt but definitely read it all!
Since the beginning of the debate about offshore drilling, it has been clear that the promises are as concrete as petroleum fumes across the Gulf of Mexico. Inland lawmakers are lining up to prevent coastal states from getting any royalty money from offshore drilling. They outnumber Virginia's advocates.

[...]

But the most important assurance to residents of Virginia's coast was the one about the environment. Oil drilling, we were assured repeatedly by its advocates, is really safe these days. It won't damage the beaches, or the air, or our marshes. It certainly won't affect the wildlife.

Tell that to the people who live along the coast in Mississippi and Louisiana.

My one beef... (0.00 / 0)
I love how this editorial calls out McDonnell, Warner, Webb and Nye. I just wish they included VB Mayor Sessoms in that list. The City's voting in support of drilling a few weeks ago for no other reason than "the Governor asked us to" is ridiculous and should be extremely embarrassing for him!

and correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't Virginia Beach where the psychic Edgar Cayce had his dreams, which included recall of lives in Atlantis off shore somewhere? I suspect there might be a bit of a hangover of that mentality, vaporware descended from the myth-mindset which also seems to haunt most right-wing Republicans. So, such a vote would be quite in keeping with Virginia Beach.....?

Yes (0.00 / 0)
Yes, or the aptly misnamed "association for research and enlightenment" dedicated to Cayce's "readings and prophecies" is there. However, we must never forget that Pat Robertson also resides there with his empire.

I've often wondered how Robertson got away with selling off - for his own personal financial gain - his television network when the donations of hundreds of thousands of people enabled him to build and maintain his propaganda/business empire. I guess it's just that old "free market" in action...:-)

Virginia Beach belongs to Frank Wagner (0.00 / 0)
For some absurd reason, this town worships every word emanating from this man's mouth, and Wagner is VERY slick, just like an oil spill.

And just as sticky and foul? (0.00 / 0)
