The Virginia Chapter of the Sierra Club Endorses Alfonso Lopez for Delegate

Cites Lopez’s Record Working on Environmental Issues

The Virginia Chapter of the Sierra Club has endorsed Alfonso Lopez today for the 49th District of the Virginia House of Delegates. Since 1892, the Sierra Club has been working to protect communities, wild places, and the planet itself.

Alfonso has been working to protect the environment at the local, state, and federal level for two decades,” said Glen Besa, Virginia Chapter of the Sierra Club Director. “The Sierra Club is proud to support Alfonso Lopez in his campaign for the House of Delegates. His experience and passion for our environment will make him the environmental champion we need in Richmond.”

Lopez has advocated for protecting the Chesapeake Bay and the Virginia coast line, raising public consciousness about clean air and water, and improving state and federal energy efficiency standards. Lopez advocated for the environment during his service in the Virginia Liason’s Office for Governor Kaine, as a staffer in the U.S. Senate, and a Law Clerk at the National Trust for Historical Preservation.

“I’m honored to receive the endorsement of the Sierra Club,” said Lopez. “The Sierra Club has been a leader in organizing the protection and improvement of our environment. I look forward to working with them to make Virginia a more environmentally friendly state. We need to protect Virginia’s environment from short-sighted policies like uranium mining and make environmental policy a key to our long-term economic success by developing our green technology industry.”

Alfonso Lopez is a candidate for Virginia House of Delegates in the 49th District. With nearly 20 years of legislative experience at the highest levels in federal and state government and a record of achievement in our community, Lopez has dedicated his life to public service and Virginia.
