No Wonder Why Virginia Republican Congresscritters Are Ducking Town Hall Meetings

by: lowkell

Fri Apr 29, 2011 at 15:37:20 PM EDT

Can you imagine a stuff-shirt imbecile like Robert Hurt trying to answer his angry constituents on why he voted to gut Medicare while enriching the already-rich and slamming the middle class?  That would be hilarious, but it's no wonder he has no intention of holding any such meeting. Same thing with Morgan Griffith, Scott Rigell, Rob Wittman, Frank Wolf, Bob Goodlatte, Randy Forbes..and, of course, Eric Can'tor -- no town hall meetings, because they know what kinds of questions they'd get, and they know they have no answers.

P.S. More examples of what Virginia's Republican Congresscritters are hiding from on the "flip."

Interesting to note (0.00 / 0)
I emailed the Richmond Times Dispatch and asked why they have not covered the fact that VA House Republicans who voted to terminate Medicare and push grandma onto the corner are not holding town halls but rather cowardly hiding. Response back from RTD? What vote?

Journalism is just too hard apparently

Seriously?!? (0.00 / 0)
They actually responded and told you that?  If so, that newspaper should be shut down for utter incompetence.  WTF?

What do you really expect? (0.00 / 0)
Empty Suit's wife sits on their Board. I'd really love to see Robert Hurt defending his votes the most. Perriello defended them all the time with great intensity and he knew his stuff. Hurt hasn't a clue what he's doing. Pontoon I feel really bad for you man.

Is their anyting we can do... (0.00 / 0)
...to put the pressure on Hurt in regards to this issue?

Is their any way local communities can try and organize their own town halls and invite the speaker to explain his positions on these matters?

Is their anyone in Hurt's district who is willing to run against him and use Hurt's votes to start holding him accountable now even though the election isn't for another 18 months?

I feel sorry for me too, Cool Arrow! (0.00 / 0)
Hurt has absolutely no idea what he is doing and just follows along with his Republican cronies.  The only news coverage I've seen of him speaking about his vote supporting Paul Ryan's "Path to Disaster" is here to a group of Liberty University and Lynchburg College students (who aren't in the 5th district).

As for anyone running against him, the only person I can think of would be Tom Perriello.  If Hurt continues down the current Disaster path, Tom could beat him.  But I have absolutely no idea whether he (Tom) is interested.  One of Hurt's campaign promises was to go to Washington to "protect Medicare" and he has now voted to dismantle it because it costs too much.

He would never come to a local Dem Committee's meeting.  Hell, he didn't even come to debates during the campaign.  He is proving now that he'll never put himself in the position of having the defend his votes, because he is only going to talk to supporters in small, pre-planned events where the attendees are invited.

Little taken aback by a response. Was not take aback by the actual content of the response.  In my reply, I had to state what vote and added the small suggestion they hire a journalist to do some news reporting.  No response since.

I'd have to think... (0.00 / 0)
Seriously about a call to the editor's office.  Even if the person e-mailing back somehow missed the vote, its easily researched - something everyone in the news room SHOULD be able to do.

Hey (0.00 / 0)
they elected him, now let them live with the cnsequences of no representation, no communication, no town halls. He'll be out in 2 years for sure. The dems need to begin NOW looking for someone to run against him. You know, somene who could actually win.

I'm sure the DPVA will be getting right on top of that effort any day now.
