Ayn Rand: The Heartless, Fanatic Philosopher Behind Today's Republican Party

Watch this video and tell me this woman isn't frightening in every way. Right, it's impossible to argue that she's not an unhinged fanatic. Now, tell me how the Republican Party's worship of someone who scorns majority rule, our Judeo-Christian religious heritage, any government regulation whatsoever in the capitalist system, etc; who believes it's is "immoral" to place anything above "the individual" (and that altruism is evil while selfishness is good!); and who asserts that anyone who's "weak" is unworthy of love; is not extremist and unworthy to govern our nation?

heh, as for me, trying to figure out how many flasks of bourbon and whisky i can smuggle into the theater: such trainwrecks (tar har) need a good liquorin' up to enjoy.

meanwhile, young objectivists in love!

Reading the book (0.00 / 0)
was quite sufficient, thank you! :)

The Book is always better than the movie. . . . . (0.00 / 0)
And, in this case, the book is 2000 pages of road apples wrapped up in a 1000 page binder.

And the Peterson (0.00 / 0)
and Koch crowd are pitching this stuff and pushing it into "economics" curricula in college classes.  The head of one bank paid one college to use it in its curricula. But that college is far from the only one where these guys have inserted it into classrooms.

This stuff is successful precisely because Rand gave "permission" for peoples' worst instincts.  She might as well have pushed Lord of the Flies.

There's nothing in the middle of the road except yellow stripes and dead armadillos (Jim Hightower). PS I'm on Twitter here.

Here are a couple of tidbits... (0.00 / 0)
What was Ayn Rand's view on abortion?

Excerpt from "Of Living Death" in The Objectivist, October 1968:

An embryo has no rights. Rights do not pertain to a potential, only to an actual being. A child cannot acquire any rights until it is born. The living take precedence over the not-yet-living (or the unborn).

Abortion is a moral right-which should be left to the sole discretion of the woman involved; morally, nothing other than her wish in the matter is to be considered. Who can conceivably have the right to dictate to her what disposition she is to make of the functions of her own body?"

From a 1964 interview in Playboy magazine:

Playboy:
Has no religion, in your estimation, ever offered anything of constructive value to human life?

Rand:
Qua religion, no-in the sense of blind belief, belief unsupported by, or contrary to, the facts of reality and the conclusions of reason. Faith, as such, is extremely detrimental to human life: it is the negation of reason. But you must remember that religion is an early form of philosophy, that the first attempts to explain the universe, to give a coherent frame of reference to man's life and a code of moral values, were made by religion, before men graduated or developed enough to have philosophy.

I borrowed it for my site.

BTW (0.00 / 0)
One of her earliest, most dedicated disciples was a young fellow named...Alan Greenspan.

So her views are not incidental to, but deeply embedded in the veins of today's Republican party.

And I guess the Great Recession that Greenspan enabled was -- Atlas Falling on his A**!
