Video: "Sideshow Bob" Elaborates On His Vicious Homophobia

by: lowkell

Tue Dec 21, 2010 at 12:38:27 PM EST

That's right, according to "Sideshow Bob," it's all about "blood transfusions," "sodomy," and being "worried about this guy whose got eyes on me." Can we say "he's got issues?" Uh huh.

Now, back to sanity: Sen. Mary Margaret Whipple (D-Arlington) replies to Marshall's rantings: "I think modern day Virginia has no room for that kind of homophobia...people who are willing to be that patriotic, to serve their country, shouldn't be questioned in any way."

By the way, since when did "Sideshow Bob" become a medical and/or epidemiological expert? Last I checked, you didn't have to be gay in order to have various diseases that would make blood donations risky. That includes HIV/AIDS, for which many incidences of transmission in the United States are heterosexual in nature, and for which the majority of infections in the world as whole are heterosexual in nature as well. But, of course, that's not what this is all about for Bob Marshall and his ilk. It's raw anti-gay bigotry, nothing more and nothing less. The question is, why don't we treat people like Bob Marshall as a blatant, outright bigot, who should be shunned by everyone and not treated as a serious member of polite society?  Where, for instance, is the condemnation from Gov. Bob McDonnell? RPV chair Pat Mullins? Rep. Frank Wolf? Perennial Senate candidate George Allen? The silence is deafening.

Actually... (0.00 / 0)
Silence from McDonnell is not deafening. This morning's RTD quotes the governor as saying that while he disagreed with the repeal of DADT, Virginia would obey the law. So he's cut Marshall off at the knees on this one.

But he didn't disagree with Marshall (4.00 / 1)
on the core position, that homosexuals shouldn't serve in the military.

Right (0.00 / 0)
that's a given, he was on the other side of the issue. But the way democracy works is if you lose on the issue, you abide by the will of the majority. Which the governor has said he will do. Seems like that's all you could ask of him.
There are people on the other side of the issue who have sincere religious beliefs that homosexuality is wrong. They are entitled to those beliefs. We don't have to agree with them, but we can't deny their right to hold those beliefs. But what you want from them is an acknowledgement that they won't let their beliefs get in the way of obeying the law.

I want McDonnell just ONCE (0.00 / 0)

Silence (0.00 / 0)
There are probably a lot of Virginians that disagree with that nut case, but their silence especially at the voting booth allows people like many of the republicans to spew their hate.

Wildest Fantasy Porn (0.00 / 0)
The men like Marshall and Eugene along with others who create the most wild gay porn and scatological offerings are really sick individuals, if not groups. From what has been a fairly constant stream of men screaming homophobic hate using heated and detailed sex descriptions and talk and then being caught in gay sex is very common.  Whether it is in a mens room stall or photographed with a luggage carrier or stopped for a traffic violation with a gay hooker, or turned in by the "deep" massage guy and a whole lot of preachers repenting after the organist learned something interesting these people almost always are people of power using that power to make laws, rules and regulations to "control" gays.

For years the LGBT community has called them self-loathing gays, using their public or religious power to try and control their own gay life.  The failure is they can pass all the laws along with hell fire and damnation from the pulpit they want and it won't change who they are. They hate themselves so much and spend a lot of time and hate against the very community they belong to.  And in the end they will be outed, becoming the butt of jokes because they are so hypocritical.

When will Marshall and Eugene break?  Good question.  I know any self respecting gay guy would never bend over in front of them in the shower. You never know when these men who are pretending to be straight will crack.

Mere parsimony is not economy. Expense, and great expense, may be an essential part in true economy.

Yep! (0.00 / 0)
As a straight, married woman, I have always marveled at the vitriolic hate and fear that innocent gays can arouse in some men, men like Marshall who protest far too much. Marshall gives himself away when he says if he were on the battlefield he's "got to worry about this guy who's got his eyes on me." He's either a world-class, delusional egotist, or he's terrified that he will be attracted to that "guy." I opt for the latter.

see here: "The results of this study indicate that individuals who score in the homophobic range and admit negative affect toward homosexuality demonstrate significant sexual arousal to male homosexual erotic stimuli."

and here:
"...while 66% of the nonhomophobic group showed no significant tumescence while watching the male homosexual video, only 20% of the homophobic men showed little or no evidence of arousal. Similarly, while 24% of the nonhomophobic men showed definite tumescence while watching the homosexual video, 54% of the homophobic men did."

So he can't just be wrong... (0.00 / 0)
...he has to be evil or mentally disturbed or latently gay?

[ Parent ]
For this amount of bizarre obsession with sex (4.00 / 1)
both straight and gay? As far as I can tell, this guy's seriously disturbed and very likely a closet case. Here are a few more Bob Marshall classics that demonstrate my point re: his craziness:

*"The number of children who are born subsequent to a first abortion with handicaps has increased dramatically. Why? Because when you abort the first born of any, nature takes its vengeance on the subsequent children... In the Old Testament, the first born of every being, animal and man, was dedicated to the Lord. There's a special punishment Christians would suggest."

*"When asked about abortion in the case of incest, Marshall replied that sometimes incest is voluntary. In response to abortions in the case of rape, Marshall said, 'Your origins should not be held against you [referring to the victim's unborn child]. The woman becomes a sin-bearer of the crime, because the right of a child predominates over the embarrassment of the woman.'"

*"According to the Globe, Marshall also "railed" against Norplant, a contraceptive not-yet-marketed at the time that is implanted under the skin and works for up to five years. 'It's a real tribute to women's intelligence," Marshall told the reporter. "They feel so irresponsible they can't do something once a day?'"

*Marshall on the Morning After Pill: "We have no business passing this garbage out and making these co-eds chemical Love Canals for these frat house playboys in Virginia."

Also, just to show he's not just crazy about sex:

*Bob Marshall’s take on the Obama Agenda: "Suicidal deficits, enemies lists, abortion, euthanize seniors, health care that kills capitalism ... 'Live and let die,' Obama theme song!"

*Bob Marshall compares the economic stimulus package to slavery: "It is as much a chain as ankle bracelets were as to African-Americans in the 1860s in this state. It's just invisible. But it is a chain of death that we're not going to escape."

*Marshall on Cap-and-Trade legislation: "Virginia stands poised to stop [Democrats in Congress] at the borders with HB1397 which has already been introduced for the 2011 session of the Virginia General Assembly."

And to directly answer your question (0.00 / 0)
Yes, in theory, he COULD "just be wrong," but clearly Bob Marshall goes wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy beyond "just wrong", and I think most people who've watched him for any length of time would agree. Read the quotes I've provided, including how handicapped children are "vengeance" by nature and/or god, how the economic stimulus is just like slavery, how the morning after pill is "making these co-eds chemical Love Canals for these frat house playboys in Virginia," etc., etc., and seriously explain to me how this guy isn't a raving lunatic.

As I've written elsewhere... (0.00 / 0)
...Bob's a pretty decent legislator ..from the conservative Republican perspective, of course ... when the subject does not involve any aspect of human sexuality. His knowledge of the rules of the House is second to none. He comes up with interesting, and effective stratagems...such as the law interposing the state between the citizens and the health care reform legislation. I'm not arguing that was right, mind you, although it's a better bill without an individual mandate, but that it was a really good strategy to bring the issue to a head for his side and he's the one who thought of it. I don't think his fervor about abortion and homosexuality mark him as latently gay. He's a sincere believer in a very strict form of Catholicism. I don't share his religious beliefs and won't presume to explain them. I don't share his views on abortion. I don't share his views on homosexuality. But I don't think he has to be evil to hold his views any more than I think  you have to be evil if you hold political views I disagree with, which I'm sure you probably do, because I'm pro-gun, pro-death penalty and pro-nuclear power, which is likely enough to make me Satan in some Dems eyes too. A lot of what you quote above is Marshall engaging in the same type of political hyperbole that you are engaged in in calling him gay because he disagrees with you.

Visceral Hate (4.00 / 1)
There is a problem with spouting falsehoods and believing them. Not learning the truth, avoiding it and trying to destroy people is not Catholic. The Roman Catholic church worked hard to be comforting and inclusive, regardless of the person.

Fervor for a point is one thing. To attack and want to hurt and destroy is very different.  What he and Eugene scream is on the side of bigots and homophobes, quite often that of someone who is a self-hating gay man. He hates himself, he was taught to hate himself, and he promulgates it by being in a position to cause damage to others.  If he was some guy in the back of the church yelling about gays - it would not matter.

That he is in a position of power, and uses that position to hurt and destroy is very different.  He is a public figure and as such opens himself up to having his hate and bigotry pointed out in public and opposed in public. Trying to hurt and destroy is not heroic, it is despicable.

We are now almost in 2011 and these homophobic views belong in the 1100's, not now.  Just as racist views are out of place now, so are beliefs about human sexuality and orientation.

Mere parsimony is not economy. Expense, and great expense, may be an essential part in true economy.

decent legistlator!? (4.00 / 1)
Steve, you owe me a new keyboard because I just spewed coffee all over my keyboard and screen.

Frankly it matters not at all if you agree or disagree with Bob Marshall's positions; his success rate in the legislature is appalling, and by many accounts the worst in the legislature regardless of party affiliation.

His bills have very little to do with good governance and a lot to do with titillating and/or embarrassing material; material so embarrassing that even the members of his own party who typically dominate the Virginia House of Delegates rarely pass his sponsored legislation.

Not only do I disagree with most of Bob Marshall's proposed legislation and voting record; he is one of the worst legislators ever to occupy a seat, and definitely the worst since Dick Black was driven out a few years ago.

Full disclosure: I actually agree with Bob Marshall on treating all immigrants (legal and illegal) with dignity and respect (for they are all human beings).  I actively campaign against Bob Marshall and his harmful agenda every election, and even write in candidates rather than vote for Bob when there is no challenger.

No More Gay Bashing in Northern Virginia (0.00 / 0)
I hope everyone is tired of hearing Delgaudio refer to Transgenders as IT and tired of hearing Marshall bash gays in the military.

I actually served in the US Army, was a volunteer, and would have no problem being in a fox hole with a gay soldier.  We all knew gay soldiers, and when I was a peacekeeping officer in Egypt, we had them there as well at all ranks.  They served with great honor.

All Americans need to be treated equally.  As the candidate for Supervisor in Dulles District in Loudoun, I will defend gays and transgenders, make sure they can't be denied a job on the basis of sexual preference, and make sure they receive full marriage benefits.  It's the correct American thing to do.

No more ethnic bashing of hispanics.  No more gay bashing.  No more bashing of Islam or people of any faith.

Civil rights must be at the heart of governance.  Most Republicans are not bigots.  They are as good and true as any Democrat or Independent.  What's wrong with the leadership around here?

Time for politicians and bullies like Delgaudio and Marshall to stop behaving like bigots.  Grow up, guys and be a man.

November 2011 (0.00 / 0)
The next election is 2011.  Stevens isn't running again, plans on going for another office. For myself, I've been knocking on doors for some time, talking to Republicans, Democrats and Independents.   Despite the homophobia of Delgaudio and Marshall, most people in my neck of the woods are reasonable folks who just want a functioning, non-partisan government, services and low taxes. They also want to live their lives in peace without interferance.

That works for me.  Some suggested that I use my experience in high office; but to be honest, I really like the idea of nuts and bolts government. I plan to bring to Dulles over 35 years in the government focused mostly on emergency management and economic development, plus several years in an NGO focused on protecting livestock, and work beyond that as a consultant.

Come to www.roederfordulles.com and make a contribution.

VA GOP 10th CD Chair Howie Lind chimes in (0.00 / 0)
Yes, this Howie Lind. Wow, where do they GET these people?!?
Senators Webb and Warner on "Don't Ask, Don't Tell"

In this shame-filled lame-duck session, the Democrats in Congress have been jamming through huge pieces of legislation at break-neck speed before the "adults" take over in January.  These newly elected members from the Nov. 2 "shellacking" (Obama's word) would not be voting for any of this junk, including overturning the current - and functioning - law of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" that restricts gays and lesbians from openly serving in our armed forces.

Of note is how the two US Senators from Virginia, Jim Webb and Mark Warner, reacted and voted on this very controversial bill.  They are both chickens, bowing to the left-wing, kook-fringe of the Democrat party who has been driving this repeal since 1993, rather than supporting the vast numbers of active duty and reserve military members and veterans who populate the Old Dominion.  Virginia has the one of the highest, if not the highest, percentage of military and veterans in the country.  Did Senators Webb and Warner both seek to consult their constituents in Virginia and hold hearings and demand to learn from the military leadership how this big change would be implemented?  Not a chance.  They each hid behind the skirts of Secretary of Defense Gates who "assured them that this could be done without impacting the combat readiness of the US military."  Baloney.

Why didn't our former Secretary of the Navy, now Senator Webb, demand to see for himself how the Navy would implement this policy aboard ship.  Why didn't he ask the Navy would gays and lesbians live, berth, and shower with all crewmembers?  Or would there be separate berthing areas for gay men, gay women, straight men, and straight women?  That doesn't make sense.  Or would there be separate staterooms for all crewmembers.  That is entirely cost prohibitive.

No, our former Secretary of the Navy, who was actually fired after 10 months on the job in 1988, did none of that.  (See President Reagan's quote in his diary when Jim Webb resigned as Secretary of the Navy -- "I don't think anybody at Navy will miss him," wrote Ronald Reagan.)  And what can be said for Mark Warner who doesn't know an M-1 from a B-1?  He didn't do anything either.

At least they could demand that a fair questionnaire and survey be conducted.  No, they let slide the fact that only 6 percent of the military filled out and returned the survey which now everyone touts the bogus line that 70% of the military is in favor of overturning the ban.  So, 70% of 6% equals 4.2%, and this equates to overwhelming support?  Why didn't they both force Mr. Gates and Admiral Mullen (JCS Chairman) to ask the other 95.8 % of the military?  What a disgrace.  Virginians will be sure to see that Senators Webb and Warner don't return to the Senate after the elections in 2012 and 2014, respectively.

RedNoVA: "Bob Marshall: What the hell?!?" (0.00 / 0)
Wow, I actually agree with Red NoVA on something:
Unless someone can do a stellar job of explaining this to me, I have no idea why anyone would propose this as a law.

It seems to me that there should be more important issues than fighting a culture war in the military. What's next? Are we going to dig up graves from Arlington Cemetary if we discover that one of them is gay?

[...]

...Bob Marshall only wants to propose this b/c he doesn't like gay people. It has nothing to do with the military.
