Top Rigell Endorser Recommends Racist "Barack the Angry Negro" Video

by: lowkell

Tue Oct 19, 2010 at 14:17:58 PM EDT

Another day brings yet another one of Scott Rigell's top endorsers - this time, former (2001) Virginia Beach Republican Committee chair, Karen Beauchamp - caught sending a racist email, this time with hate video to boot. Warning: the content in the video is some of the most vile, offensive language I've listened to in a really long time, it's very difficult to even sit through it. Ugh. Anyway, to say that racism is not a wide-spread problem among Virginia Beach Republicans is clearly untrue.

Yesterday, Scott Rigell did the right thing and denounced (now former) Virginia Beach Republican Committee chair David Bartholomew. Today, it looks like Rigell needs to denounce yet another VBRC chair, also a top endorser of his campaign.  Right now, Rigell's got her name prominently displayed on his website (see image after the "fold"). After you watch the video or read the quotes from the video, I think you'll all agree that needs to change immediately.

In her email, Ms. Beauchamp enthusiastically references a video, by this guy, which is both too repulsive to watch, and apparently too repulsive for YouTube to allow on their site. If you really want to see it, it's available at the "Conservative Sportsmen" site. If you can't stomach watching it, which I wouldn't blame you if you didn't, I'll include a selection of a few of the most offensive quotes from the video after the "fold." Blech.

UPDATE: Scott Rigell's campaign has condemned this email as well. Good for him. Ms. Beauchamp's name also appears to have been removed from Rigell's list of endorsers.

Let me be clear, racism has no place in our society and runs completely counter to Scott Rigell's values. The Rigell campaign does not condone this type of behavior from anyone associated with our campaign. It should be noted that Karen Beauchamp is not in a position of leadership or an advisor to the Rigell campaign, and she has not been in a position of leadership within the Republican Party for close to 10 years.
By the way, that Washington Post story is almost completely wrong; the video they mention is a completely different video from a completely different story. Whatever, details details! (snark)
lowkell :: Top Rigell Endorser Recommends Racist "Barack the Angry Negro" Video

"Barack Hussein Obama, hmm! hmm! hmm! You been called the chosen one, the messiah, an African God, a post-racial President, Barack the magic Negro. Barack, you're a lot of things, but you are not a magic negro. You're an angry negro and you have now broken the hearts of more black Americans than any white man ever could. You have now proven that you are an enemy of the United States."

"Now I'm gonna talk down in a language that I hope you can all understand."

"If you're a black American it's time you need to decide, are you an American first, or are you an African or black American first?"

"You have declared war on the white man in America, putting the wants and needs of moochers, leeches, looters, and criminals ahead of the producers and the workers of America, and we don't want 15-20 million illiterate Mexicans and Chicanos as our new welfare society living like rats in our neighborhoods, they must go, and either the government steps up or the government will have to clean up."

"Barack, you, your advisors, pollsters, pundits, talking heads, have wanted to know, who are the pissed off people in this country? Well the pissed-off people sir are the white people. It's the white people stupid!"

"And Barack, if you want another white face to hate, I'm ya Huckleberry!"

that video at that site which is an equal opportunity offender. It fairly well features just about every nightmare you imagine could be harbored in tea party closets.

I guess Ms. Beauchamp (0.00 / 0)
has ingested some of the Tea Party/Glenn Beck Kool-Aid.  From when I knew her years ago, she has obviously changed - and not for the better.  WTF was she thinking.

This taking America back (4.00 / 1)
to the dark ages-what are they trying to accomplish?

So will all the people running for school board and city council, who are supposed to be "independent", ask for their pictures to be scrubbed from the VBRP website?

DPVA issues a statement (0.00 / 0)
Today yet another racist email forwarded by a prominent member of the local Republican party is being reported. This time the email comes from Karen Beauchamp, former VB Republican City Committee Chair and current Scott Rigell advisor. Beauchamp tops Rigell's list of endorsements on his front page of his website.

In concert with yesterday's email from Dave Bartholomew, it appears that an ugly pattern is emerging. How many more racist emails have to surface before Scott Rigell will clean house and disavow this sort of backwards thinking?   Rigell choosing to seek counsel and advice from people like Karen Beauchamp is unacceptable and promotes divisiveness.  We are calling for the Rigell campaign to remove her from their website and denounce her support.

Why are all these emails months old? (0.00 / 0)
I think this story needs a little more context on whether the person sending them to Lowell has been holding them for a late election surprise, or just received them recently from a forward.

It would be nice to know, but ... (0.00 / 0)
... what difference would that really make.

I think we can fairly assume that the motive of whoever (or is it whomever) is leaking these is to hurt the GOP, and so times it to have the maximum effect.

But the issue, it seems to me, is that these public and party officials are trafficking in this vile stuff, and what it says about what they really believe behind closed doors.

The emails are totally unacceptable (0.00 / 0)
Which makes me wonder why someone who saw them a few months ago would hold them instead of immediately demanding that person resign their position(s).

[ Parent ]
I see (0.00 / 0)
In any event, I agree that more context would add to the story in a meaningful way.

[ Parent ]
I agree as well (0.00 / 0)
and would love to know what the backstory is here.

Personally curious (0.00 / 0)
I love backstories, so I'm definitely interested in the whole thing. But politically?  No one is denying that the emails happened, and that someone with an agenda might use them against you at a specific point is fair game. (I said similar things about the photos of Krystal Ball.). Politics isn't, after all, some gentleman's game with rules and fair play. It's a contact sport, and both sides are in to win.

[ Parent ]
I don't know either (0.00 / 0)
but my guess is "just received them recently from a forward."

Can't you ask? (0.00 / 0)
Maybe ask them to send it on with the timestamp on the forward?

[ Parent ]
Sure, I'd be happy to ask (4.00 / 1)
As I said, I'm curious about the backstory here as well. Having said that, I'm far more curious about the FRONTstory here - current and former Republican officials in Virginia Beach forwarding around nasty, racist emails.  WTF?

Maybe they were forwarded accidentally... (0.00 / 0)
...as that seems to be the trend in emailing these days...

C'mon, half of what you read in the newspaper is stuff sent to reporters because somebody had an agenda. It would be nice to know all those agendas, but we don't because reporters protect their sources, because otherwise few people would want to be sources.

It's a factor in so many stories, why make it a distraction to this one?

For a Sustainable Virginia. Now on Twitter.

[ Parent ]
Three Reasons (0.00 / 0)
1)  If someone held emails like this it doesn't speak well to their character.  The senders should have been drubbed out of public life immediately.

2)  The timing of the release and statements were not well done making it appear that this was a coordinated attack and distracting from the issue.

3)  If this continues this week it has a real chance of backfiring, especially with Susan's dumb statement below.

Also, why is it that Republican bloggers (who must get this crap all the time from party officials) never say a word about it?

[ Parent ]
Fortunately (0.00 / 0)
There is no racism in Virginia Beach.

Can you imagine how bad this stuff would be were some of these people actually racist?

Lots of racism in Virginia Beach (0.00 / 0)
This is unacceptable, like yesterday's racist email. There is tons of racism in Virginia Beach. Especially among republicans.

The real question is (0.00 / 0)
who's releasing them now and what did they know and when did they know it? If anyone in power (Dem/Rep/Ind/Other) knew about this and didn't say anything , it is tacit approval of the racism and bigotry.

VB Democratic Committee chair Susan Mariner (0.00 / 0)
comments:
How many more racist and hate filled emails from Republican Party of Virginia Beach leaders associated with Rigell's campaign will emerge into the public sphere? That seems to be the questions of the hour.

Very well planned and timed (1.00 / 1)
attack on the Republican Party of Virginia Beach with just 2 weeks to go. Coupled with the flanking maneuver on Mayor Sessoms, it will definitely motivate the 2nd District Constituents to get out and vote. BRAVO!!!

Yeah, nothing like some overt GOP racism (0.00 / 0)
to stir up the GOP racist vote. Nice!

Also, how is reporting what actually happened (0.00 / 0)
an "attack on the Republican Party of Virginia Beach?" If they weren't forwarding racist emails around, there wouldn't be any story. Period.

[ Parent ]
Yep (0.00 / 0)
In the end, this is the real story.  Naturally Republicans will want to distract people from the attack or attack the attackers -- that's what you do in politics.  (Democrats would do the same thing.)  But the bottom line is -- if these e-mails had never been sent, there would be no story.

[ Parent ]
The attack is well planned and timed (0.00 / 0)
by whoever sent the stool pigeon the email who then posted it knowing this was only for political gain. A true and righteous person would have brought this forward 8 moths ago. The "journalist" who posted it should have suspected as much. Racism has no place in our lives. For the stool pigeon to use this for some sort of bravado or credit disgusts me just as much. Please!

[ Parent ]
Yes, it's ALL about the timing (0.00 / 0)
and not at all about the content. What typical Republican bull****.

Something similar to this (4.00 / 1)
and much worse, but including the smarta**s disgusting phrases and descriptions of President Obama have been circulating among certain members of our military for a long time. Let's not kid ourselves, it is very widespread, common, and customary, so questions about who knew and when would have to be answered with: almost all Republican insiders/leadership, for over 19 months or more. Therefore, the question about why was it supposedly leaked just now, is answered by Why not now, finally? Someone got careless, someone had an attack of conscience, someone got fed up, someone decided to backstab someone, someone was subverted and suborned, whatever....

What matters, IMO, is that these ugly videos and e-mails are so widespread and so acceptable in today's Tea Party-Republican sphere as to be almost defining of the character of the TP-Republicans. That this vile junk occasionally surface into broad daylight may upset candidates or some Republicans, forcing them to distance themselves rather hastily, but nothing is being done to burn them out and cleanse the Party of the videos and e-mails, or of those who circulate them, which tells us all we need to know about the TP-Republicans, doesn't it?

Let's Be Honest... (0.00 / 0)
If anyone thinks that the whole Tea Party movement is not being bankrolled by some of the worst - and wealthiest - racists in America, they are simply kidding themselves. President Obama won 53% of the vote. That leaves 47%, a substantial percentage of whom are as racist as they come. Those vile signs at Tea Party rallies didn't just pop up from thin air.

What disgusts me is the typical "apology" those people give when caught. "If I offended anyone, I am very sorry. That was not my intent." Bull crap. That was the intent. The wrong people just happened to see the offensive junk.

I really don't see the importance of when some email was first sent. What matters is that the former chair of the VB Republican committee actually thinks this way...and believes that the recipients of her email do, too. The question to ask is this: do they?

[ Parent ]
Why shocked? (4.00 / 1)
I find it hard to believe that some are actually shocked at the audacity of the Republicans to belittle their fellow Americans through emails. Every year I get proof during the State of the Union speech by the president that the republicans are not interested in bringing in any minorities or people of color unless of course they agree to abide by the rules of the ruing class within their party who are mostly white males. I watch the speech carefully scanning the room and every year I see the same thing on the republican side- white heterosexual males with a few token white women thrown in. This hardly reflects the America I love and enjoy. Now you can blat me if you want but you can't dispute what we all see right on TV every year.

Gene, What's Shocking Is (4.00 / 1)
That the the normally sanguine Republican wing of the Tea Party has been drawn into the cesspool and exposed.

[ Parent ]
What's shocking (0.00 / 0)
is that anyone would be shocked.
