"Sideshow Bob" Marshall: Disabled Children Are God's Punishment for Abortion [UPDATE: Audio]

Monday, February 22, 2010

Wow, Del. "Sideshow Bob" Marshall (R-Manassas) is truly the gift (of "teh crazy") that keeps on giving.
State Delegate Bob Marshall of Manassas says disabled children are God's punishment to women who have aborted their first pregnancy.

He made that statement Thursday at a press conference to oppose state funding for Planned Parenthood.

"The number of children who are born subsequent to a first abortion with handicaps has increased dramatically. Why? Because when you abort the first born of any, nature takes its vengeance on the subsequent children," said Marshall, a Republican.

"In the Old Testament, the first born of every being, animal and man, was dedicated to the Lord. There's a special punishment Christians would suggest."
Crazy, yes, but just remember, this is the same guy who also said that:

*"[W]e have no business passing this garbage out and making these co-eds chemical Love Canals for these frat house playboys in Virginia." (with regard to contraception)

*"It is as much a chain as ankle bracelets were as to African-Americans in the 1860s in this state. It’s just invisible. But it is a chain of death that we’re not going to escape." (comparing the economic recovery package to slavery)

*"[S]ometimes incest is voluntary" ((talking about abortion in the case of incest)

*"[T]he woman becomes a sin-bearer of the crime, because the right of a child predominates over the embarrassment of the woman." (with regard to rape)

*"Suicidal deficits, enemies lists, abortion, euthanize seniors, health care that kills capitalism ... "Live and let die," Obama theme song!" (on Twitter)

Just another day in the life of the man we know (and love) as "Sideshow Bob!" :)

UPDATE: Sign the petition calling for a public apology here.

UPDATE #2: We now have audio of Marshall's remarks. Hopefully, we'll have video soon...

UPDATE #3: Sorry, Bob, but justifying your remarks and claiming they were taken out of context is not an apology. Nice try, come again! :)

  1. Perhaps having a disabled child when you have not had an abortion is punishment because women don't go out into isolation huts during our periods; or their husbands ate some shrimp. Or maybe we haven't stoned all of the witches in our neighborhoods.....

    Or maybe NOT!!!!!!!!

  2. Marshall is more than an embarrassing inside joke; he's also the author of hb10, which has received considerable national attention as part of the "mad at Congress" movement. Its intent is to free Virginians from mandatory health insurance purchases, just in case Congress ever passed a bill that would require us to have health insurance, a possibility reawakened in the Senate this week. HB10 is poorly written, perhaps purposefully so, and the language so vague that I fear how it could be interpreted, used, and misused. Friends who know more than I about constitutional law assure me it is impotent against federal law. Perhaps, and perhaps Marshall and others know that and want it only for the political rhetoric ---- anger fuel, so to speak. And what about future state laws? Read it for yourself.

It is in the Senate Committee on Commerce and Labor now. I have contacted most members of the committee, includng Deeds, but have heard nothing from them.

Please, please look at the Democrats who voted for this bill. If any of them belong to you, I'd suggest looking at what other pandering they have been up to. Take a look at this guy's other bills too.

  3. The Health Care Freedom Act is absurd. If the national government passes a health care bill requiring that everyone participate everyone will participate, this foolish legislation nonwithstanding. I thought the questions of "states rights", "interposition", "nullification", etc., had been settled long ago. Don't we have better things to do than to haul out our little confederate flags and try to tweek Washington's nose again. I would think so!

  4. Marshall is never going to apologize. He never makes a mistake. He's infallible, like the pope, but without the hat.

Ben Tribbet called this unbelievable, but nothing that comes out of Marshall's mouth surprises me anymore.

  5. Be sure and email this to sarah palin. I am sure she will be on all cable channels tomorrow expressing outrage.
