Earlier today, the Loudoun County board of supervisors voted 5-4 to approve "a strategy that outlines how the county hopes to save energy, attract new growth and curb greenhouse gases in the next 30 years." Major kudos to Supervisor Andrea McGimsey (D-Potomac) for leading the charge on this one, and also to the other four members of the board (Supervisors Kelly Burk, Jim Burton, Sally Kurtz and Stevens Miller) who voted yes. Nice job!As I discussed on December 3, this strategy is all "win," in that it will save the county money, create jobs, and protect the environment all at the same time. This vote will also make the county eligible for over $2 million in funding for energy efficiency projects under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. In short, I believe that is what's known as a "total no brainer." Still, with Republicans opposing everything these days - even including proposals that are "win-win-win" - even "total no brainers" aren't easy to pass. Fortunately, this one did, despite opposition by the usual suspects (in this case Supervisors Lori Waters, Scott York, Eugene Delgaudio - and also Susan Klimek Buckley, who's not a "usual suspect" but voted totally wrong on this bill), and Loudoun County will be better off because of it.

What I don't get is - this is saving the county money, what is so wrong with it???
Dominic: Apparently, Republicans are simply against ANYTHING constructive these days, especially if it's proposed by a Democrat, if it helps save energy and the environment, etc. Are they the Nihilist Party? They sure act like it nowadays.
I'm surprised to hear Susan Klimek Buckley referred to as one of the "usual suspects." Seeing her name associated with certifiable Eugene Delgaudio & Lori Waters seemed incongruous. Can you elaborate?
